Escape machine - Surprise

Escape Machines - Surprise from The Cool Hunter on Vimeo.

"DDB Paris created this simple, fun “Escape Machine” experience for the French travel company Voyages SNCF.

Menacing, glowing black cubes wait till someone goes close enough. Then the cube asks where the person would like to travel. Pushing the red button produces a crazy celebration, complete with gigantic walking kisses, and provides the wishers large, customized mock tickets to their destination. Watching the faces of the onlookers is just as much fun as the experience itself!"

This is awesome. Made me smile :)

Your Facebook memories.. in a book!

When I 'graduate' from facebook.. (I can't see that happening any time soon!) I want one of these. It's kinda like a Facebook year book, don't you think? Love the cheesy memory music! Reminds me of every other South Park episode where they discuss what they have learnt from the events of the day. Hahaha..

Lollies for grown ups

Haha.. I love these! Done by DDB NZ. I think they're fairly old now but hey, I've been away for a while! :) I have a fair amount of catching up to do.

Just read up on my stat counter for this blog.. Had a loooot of traffic on here yesterday! Almost a record high. I don't know how or why.. but I like it! (I suspect most of it was through twitter. Yep, I'm tweeting again. Picked up from where I left off)

So now I'm even more excited to get cracking on my blog. Expect some awesome posting! :)

Digital Marketing workshop

WOW! I'm loving AdSchool! I got to sit in on the Digital Marketing workshop with Heather Albrecht last Friday. She was such a fantastic lecturer, the workshop was so insightful and inspiring. I came out of it feeling so energised! I couldn’t wait to get cracking on my blog again. And now I finally have some more things to add to my brain-bank. Some memorable points:

Participation Branding - "What we lose in control, we gain in brand engagement"

Matching luggage - through the line integration. Big idea = media neutral.

Viral is not a brief, it's a bonus.
It’s a commitment, not a campaign.

The three C's - Content, Community, Conversation.

Bought + Owned = Earned (media).

Facebook marketing – use to measure demographics!

FAIL FORWARD!

Prequel ads (ninemsn etc)
Before selector = 25% abandon website
with selector = 10% abandon website

Facebook plugins/social plugins - iframes

Comment/like on page without leaving site

Community Managers - not marketers/ad agency. New jobs opening up - Journalists?

Three things I'm going to do differently:

Create more online participation - ask more questions, get feedback
Try to get advertising/bought media, send to (hopefully new) website, and facebook/twitter
Get video marketing material
Get onto podcasts!
Netvibes homepage – personalised content on demand.

Social influencers – dance party video! Have to find this!

Inga.. You are hilair.

This chick totes cracks me up! hahahh.

AdSchool Foundation course

Things to remember from Advertising Foundation:

"The memorable never emerged from a formula" - Bill Bernbach

"What's new today is old tomorrow"

"In Communications, familiarity breeds apathy" - Bill Bernbach

So what's different these days? "The media landscape has seen more change in the past five years than in the previous thirty-five years. The pace of change will continue, driven by the new technology and new media, which allows the consumer to access media at a time of their choosing. No longer is there ‘below the line’ advertising and ‘above the line’ advertising. There is no line –the advertiser must choose from myriad communication channels." - Harold Mitchell, AO, CEO Mitchell & Partners

Creative - scribble 100 ideas on the back of beer coasters

BUY MAD MEN ON DVD!! (currently bidding on ebay - can't wait!)

It's been a while...!!

WOW. Great to be back in the game! After so long of being away from Adland, I'm back.. At The Communications Council as the AdSchool Account Coordinator.. primarily for Sydney but also administrating Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. Could things really get any better? I don’t think so.. I’m loving it! I’ve met heaps of amazing people, get to go to tons of ad events, and basically do what I love (AdSchool of course!).

Did I mention how much I loved Sydney?

Too much!

More to post soon..

Adland I love you

Okay.

Situation.

Friday lunchtime.

I gather up my first industry read (Creative) for a long few months of not having the free time or energy to put towards my undeniable love for advertising and ideas.

I head to the local Thai in West Perth to treat myself to a laksa and get reading.

First few pages, my excitement grows.

Mid way through I realise I am sitting there with eyebrows raised and mouth closed-smiling reading about the top voted advertising ideas, campaigns and agencies in Australia.

And I re-realised how much I love advertising. So much that I think it's unhealthy.

And I'm now buzzing from the excitement...

SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE!!!

I need to get over east!!! And when I do... there will be no stopping me!!!!!! *evil cackle*!!!

Brandkarma

"Publicis Mojo's Australian Chief Creative Officer Craig Davis is out to help everyone make better brand choices and influence brand behavior for good”.

"My issue with Brandkarma is not what it's nobly trying to achieve, but simply this: 99.9% of consumers, the regular mums, dads and kids out there, couldn't care less about contributing to sites like Brandkarma. As usual, the committed - from genuinely interested to zealots on a mission - will dominate and sway the findings accordingly.
For instance, I reckon 90% of Australians don't have any problems with Nestle - but according to BK they obviously do."

At least someone is giving it a crack. It's a good start anyway. For a personal project it is actually a great start! Maybe if there was some incentive for any consumer to log their opinions on brands, rather than just them putting in their two cents for nothing in return other than to see what others think, too..

Definitely raised a few eyebrows on Campaign Brief!

Cute little intro video as well!

Freshmen ads

Somewhere there's a junior creative crying in a beer.

Bars do it. Diners do it. Dry Cleaners do it.

Hang the first ads you were paid to write, design, direct, produce and sell to the client right here on our wall.

As Letterman would say, "This is an exhibition, not a competition. Please, no wagering."

http://www.freshmenads.com/
Classic!!

"The year was 1987 (there, you made me say it) and the place was The Richards Group in Dallas. This was one of those junior team hand-me-down projects that was due almost overnight.

Luckily for me I was paired with a talented female writer who had a much deeper appreciation for mammographies than myself. You can tell I was heavily influenced by everything coming out of Minneapolis at the time. This actually made it into The One Show that year.

My, how times and tastes have changed. – Scott Ballew"

KFC anthem! hahaha

A Party Theory of Twitter

This is classic! Great explanation for the younger crowd who are new to Twitter and don't see the point.

Finger DJ

Nice idea for an ad! Anyone? Anyone?...

Ahh there we go!

A new ad for some kinda Cheezle-like chips called 'Hula Hoops'. I think it's cute! It definitely reflects a truth about the product – no matter how old you are you can't help poking your fingers through them and feeling like a big kid. :)

"Reasons why I ♥ NY"

Photography by a friend of a friend whom I have never met, but have viewed her photos of the 'reasons why she s NY'.. and it instantly made me happy :)
Thought I'd share this one! (I especially like photo 42 - haha, the image I have in my head of the average white American couple)

oh em gee

Found this website by artist, Maya Wild. (awesome name - if it is hers)
This chick is amazing. I love her work, it's like something I'd aspire to do, so colourful, clean and cute. Website is great too! Check her out..

My favourites of this week's BestAds

are as follows.. :)

A print ad from Ogilvy Cape Town for the new Golf 6, which features special sound dampening measures that give it the "quietest cabin in its class. New Golf."

To coincide with the solar eclipse, a topical ad was developed for Michael Hill Jewellers by McCann-Erickson, Sydney.

Toast art

Nicked from this weeks BestAds! Great series of print ads done by Bloom in Dublin.

"Pat the Baker, Ireland's favourite bread, has launched via bloom, Dublin a new loaf especially made for toasting. Our target audience was Dublin commuters. The solution was to create portraits of famous Irish people using toast, for example the writers, Samuel Beckett, William Butler Yeats and Oscar Wilde."

Name change for charity

Every year, the Perth Advertising and Design Club (PADC) holds a big gathering called 'The Festival of Ideas' on Rottnest Island for Creative-minded people to attend Seminars and workshops run by the Industry's finest. All this in one weekend, along with plenty of socialising, The Festival of Ideas has always proved to be well worth the money and effort.

I learnt so much, it was so insightful! Unfortunately I left all the notes I took in the meeting room and never saw them again :( Although I do remember one cool idea one of the young guys had..

Name Change for Charity!

He was raising money for a charity that I don't remember to legally change his name to Optimus Prime. I thought it was gold. He raised just over $2000!

Can't wait for this year!
(...errrgh.. I'd better start saving.)

Steal our ideas

Freaking awesome :D

"This ambient idea for Altoids will challenge people to investigate their innate inquisitive nature at the risk of being crushed to death by a 2000 pound cliche. Those who muster up enough curiosity to push the giant red button will be handsomely rewarded with a sample package of Altoids Curiously Strong Mints."
hahahahahahahah

"The fashion world takes itself way too seriously, but Diesel is an exception. They have done a remarkable job mixing humor and sexiness. ”You’ll never be this awesome.” is a confident and self-deprecative strategy that speaks to the unattainable beauty of the fashion industry."

Pringles

This may possibly be the best banner ad ever!!! hahahaha golden!!

Johanna Mayer

This is gold!! I found an old VHS tape last weekend with a few highlights from our Media class back in year 12. Working in a post production house, I finally got the chance to burn it onto a DVD, and get it cut and converted to an online format so I could post them on youtube so they will never get lost. :)

The first one I've posted so far is titled "Johanna Mayer". This is a short piece we filmed at camp in New Norcia that won us first place in the Mandurah Short Film Festival, along with $5,000 cash prize for our school (damn..). It was for a bit of a joke, I'm slightly embarrassed by my character hahaha. Obviously the filming and editing is extremely dodgey, but I think we did well considering we only had 2 days to shoot.

Had a lot of fun filming this, though. Good memories!

Ahhh Schweppervescence

The countdown to the 56th Cannes Lions Internation Advertising Festival is on, with only 3 weeks to go! Just watching a videoblog on Campaign Brief from Cannes 2008, and was reminded of this awesome ad for Schweppes! It won a Gold Lion (as it should) and was shot with ultra slow motion cameras capturing the footage at a massive 10,000 frames per second. It's so beautiful, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside :D haha!

Another 2008 Cannes Gold Lion winner...

Tuts ma burreh

Watch this :D Hilaaaaarious!!!!

Mmmm Preshafruit!

A few weeks ago, my friend introduced me to a drink called Preshafruit.

"Preshawhatthef*ck?!"

Preshafruit. Everyone's ranting about it!

Their point of difference is the fruit in their juices is pressurised cold using High Pressure Processing rather than cooking, heating or chemicals. "That's why our fruits taste just picked and our juices just squeezed. Preshafruit is also better for you because it retains nutrients longer than heat pasteurised fruit and juices."

and they come in these cute little bottles! :D

I have a feeling these will take off like nudie juices did :D
They also do fruit in a pulpy packet! ha ha

Shoo Sha Shoo Sha Shoooo!

Some cute ads I watched on 'Stash' for Dentyne Mints.. linking to a website.. www.makefacetime.com.

The site only gives you three minutes to browse throughout (unless you are reading about the various flavours of Dentyne), to reinforce the campaigns message: to get off the www and make 'face time'.

Take a look at the TV ads.. I really like them!! Good luck trying to get through to Gen Y, though. haha!
